Hi Kate,

Shortly after I was lucky enough to witness the performance of 'Francis & Dorie' at Chris' place, Chris emailed me asking if I'd write a brief summery of my memories of the evening and send them to you, I promise though to try and keep it short as 'hero worship' tends to make the worshiper drool if they're not careful!

Like most Brits I first witnessed Frank's personal genius when 'IT Bites' where born, and straight away was hooked on the songwriting, singing and guitar abuse that Francis unleashed on the world. Being a keen guitarist myself I've tried since those days to follow him and what he's up to as I still get a huge buzz out his songwriting and vocal ability, so beautiful it is, so to witness it live in such an intimate fashion was a pure joy from beginning to end. It was the first opportunity I'd had to see him perform in a lot of years, and as he'd already 'set the bar' so high' my expectations ran wild. Needless to say I'm blown away that he is still the magnificent singer, songwriter and guitarist I remember and I was stunned by his ability to still hold an audience on his every word, he really is the complete entertainer, and best of all he hasn't been tainted by the 'bullshit' of the recording industry and maintains his own persona - I love him to bits.

Anyway Kate, let me apologise if this is a little late in coming but sadly domesticity has been a predominant factor of late. By way of an outro to this text, the young lady I was lucky enough to go to that gig with (Sam Jones) has since been in touch with you with a view to hosting a 'house party' too, after the great social vibe that also permeated the gig we pretty much instantly decided we'd like to a be a part of any future events Francis may wish to entertain at when he next decides to tour.

With love and respect...

Wow. What an evening! There is no doubt about it Francis and Dorie's concert at my house in Norwich (well, Flordon - to be precise) was just stunning. I had an audience made up of huge Francis fans to people who, to be honest, hadn't really heard of him (though there weren't many who when I said 'It Bites' didn't go 'Ahhh. - Calling All The The Heroes'!) and all of them said afterwards what an amazing evening they had had. The atmosphere, the meeting new people, the music and singing and the hilarious Astrology chat in between really made for an absolutely unique experience for everyone. I had some friends who had come on the night over for a BBQ today and they are still talking about it, as I am. The general consensus was that it was something quite special which will always be remembered. I think it will be a while before Flordon sees anything like that again.

It was great to just chat with Francis before and after the show. And to be sitting on the floor in my bedroom drinking a cup of coffee whilst Francis tuned up and ran through some of the numbers was just surreal. Here was a man whose music I have been listening to since the eighties, whose album Once Around The World had been the theme tune to a fabulous holiday in Turkey, whose music had been played and played at the office and who I had seen playing virtuoso guitar on stage on several occasions, standing in my bedroom running through some of my favouite pieces. Quite mind boggling!

He was spot on with his comments in his tour blog about Karen and her Prog Rock husband too. Karen wholehearted agreed with his comments about Yes. Whenever she hears me playing any Yes she asks why they can't just make up their minds and all play the same thing and maybe make a decision about what speed to go rather than changing all the time! She was a bit unsure about what the evening would be like and she (almost grudgingly, I felt :-) ) admitted that she had really enjoyed it. I had selected a few songs that I knew she knew and liked but she enjoyed all the others just as much, as did everyone.

All in all, a great performance from Francis and Dorie and I know that all the guests revelled in the opportunity to chat to them afterwards, have pictures taken and get their CDs signed. I think it will be fairly easy to sell out next time.

Massive thanks to all concerned!

Chris

Dear Kathleen and Erica,

Thank you so much for letting me host a Francis Dunnery house concert in my home. I have had a lot of great musical experiences throughout the years, and I have seen many of my musical idols perform the music that I love. However, having Francis Dunnery visit my house, performing my absolute favorite Album, with all the wonderful songs, with all the surrounding stories, in my living room, along with my lovely wife, my friends…….. words cannot explain the sensation. It was simply overwhelmingly fantastic!

Many of my guests had never heard any records of Francis prior to the show, but I can assure you that Francis and Dorie are in all their hearts after the show. All the feedbacks that I received after the show have been overwhelming. Experiencing the stunning synchronicity of the songs Francis and Dorie do together is a unique experience, and they are so beautifully matched, I almost think both voices are controlled by one brain.... I have seen a show with Francis earlier, the Gulley Flats Boys, and that was also fantastic, and I was expecting some kind of recognition from the last time I saw him, but when he did the Man Show at my house, it was like it came out of a new album, with brand new perspectives, great passion in the performance, including the stories to build up the content of each song. That is pretty amazing, considering the songs were written many years ago. This was a revelation for me, after interpreting the content of the album over many years, and still getting surprises along the way when I finally “got it”……

The Man show took us on a journey, gave relief, brought tears to our eyes, and made us laugh and think about the places we are in life at this moment.

From the bottom of my heart, with love from my wife and all my friends, Thank you Francis, and thank you Dorie.
We love you, and welcome you back to our house “in the city of Hole” anytime.

As Ana and I were co-hosts for Mike and Debbie's recent house concert, I have been asked to write this review on everyones behalf. So here goes...

Bearing in mind that this was the third house concert that we have hosted, I would like to say that we were more relaxed around the event itself, but in actual fact the "butterflies" of anticipation were there as usual. The gathered throng of around 30 guests were likewise charged with anticipation...anticipation which was more than amply rewarded.

Francis and Dorie (and Paul Brown....great to see him again... "lovely fella") were as relaxed as ever and warmed up quickly, over a cup of coffee, and were "ready to rock" very soon after arrival. This was the It Bites / Ego show and we were treated to acoustic versions of the "prog rock" classics including an impromptu shortened version of Once Around The World...one of Mike's favourites. Francis' guitar playing was as ever sublime but his and Dorie's singing transcended that into the realms of perfection. Their voices work seamlessly together, not only in terms of harmony and phrasing but also in terms of modulation and expression...superb!

Francis' raconteur skills were once again on fine form as he told often lurid tales (we like lurid) of life in It Bites and their progression from nothing to ...well.. It Bites! It's a great story which really should be told more formally... perhaps in a book??? Funny, sad, rude, funny again...great stories and excellent music beautifully performed for just over 90 minutes... which just flew over.

All of the house guests, to a man and woman, had a fabulous time and enjoyed mingling with Francis and Dorie after the "concert" as they devoured Debbie's superb meat and potato pie followed by autographs, photos and of course lots of hugs with the man himself! Overall, this was once again a fabulous "night in" with the best of everything, and to echo the words of all of the guests, "when's the next one"? More please!

Hi Erica!

I just wanted to send a quick mail before I go to bed.

We have all had the most amazing evening with Francis and Dorie! I'm still somewhat stunned, if that's the right word: the atmosphere this evening was excellent, Francis and Dorie were on top form, and we had a whole bunch of lovely people who enjoyed the storytelling and the fantastic music - more than one came up to us after and said "oh we're definitely doing this again!"

Many many thanks for all the wonderful, personal and professional time, effort and enthusiasm you guys have shown all the way up to this moment. We're still buzzing!

We're gonna want to do this again - now we really understand the House Concert concept. Next time we're going to reply even quicker and try to make it a Saturday:)

Much love and many thanks, till next time,

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for the email and would more than happy to drop some words for you. Please pass on huge thanks to Francis, Dorie and Erica. You all were amazing throughout. "It's always a bit nerve wracking playing some mates a cd of stuff you love but no-one else has discovered yet. You can quadruple those nerves when you invite 30 pals round to a front room and say "hey listen to these guys for an hour and a half.. Live!" After only a few moments those nerves were gone because Francis and Dorie had everyone beautifully in the palm of their hand. I think the joy of this house concert is that one minute you were tuned into some great lyric being sung in such natural harmony and then next you're laughing at one of Francis' stories... Then you might go from hearing a big principle about how as humans in the modern world we spend far too much time worrying and the next you were having a singalong.

If it were possible i'd have a house concert every few months. It's good for the soul. It's different. It's entertaining and profound. No matter whether you've heard of Francis before or not people walk away feeling better.

We had the Gulley Flats Boys Show with songs and stories about going through the midlife crisis. Not your average Friday night chat but cannot recommend this one enough, especially if like me you're on the cusp of it! Thanks Francis and Dorie. You've got a special thing going on and I love the fact it didn't feel as though it was just another house concert. It felt fresh.
Long may it continue."

Hi Kate,

We had a great night with Francis & Dorie, & the concert was a big hit with our family & friends. Although we host many parties it’s the first time we have tried anything like this, so obviously we were a little sceptical as to how it would go down with a few of our guests who normally just like to arrive & get stuck into the alcohol & food!! (this is fairly normal mentality in Whitehaven as I’m sure Francis is aware).

As Ian and myself had seen Francis in concert before, we knew it would be a very entertaining event and a wonderfully different experience for everyone present. When the concert began I glanced around the room to check out a few expressions and although most were immediately engaged with Francis, I was amused & not at all surprised to see a couple of unsure looks on the faces of a couple of mates who I know through experience have a very low tolerance at parties of anything other than alcohol abuse!! However within no more than 10 minutes it was evident that they had become totally engrossed with Francis who shared with us some open, honest & often moving accounts of his life, which were very cleverly backed up by his music & Dorie’s stunning vocals.

When the concert had finished and the partying begun there was a real buzz in the air and it was interesting to hear people sharing stories with one another (some of whom had just met that evening), which would probably never have come to light without reflection on the concert.

The night was a huge success and definitely one of the best evenings we have ever hosted and we are already planning another for next year.

The next day we received loads of texts and phone calls from our guests who wanted to thank us wholeheartedly for the experience as it had meant so much to them. I even got an apology from my mam who was adamant she didn’t want to come (she never goes out normally) but I made her as I knew she would benefit from the experience – and she loved it!!!!

Francis & Dorie are a great Act and provided us with a very special evening – thank you so much.

This was our second house concert and this time, we were a lot more relaxed and organised! Francis and Dorie turned up at our house and acted as if they had known us for years. It felt very heart warming – almost like we were having friends over for dinner and song!

All our guests this time were avid Francis Dunnery fans and I think that made the night even more spectacular. Everyone ‘got’ it and all had a great time. Francis really made us feel a part of his life and for me, this continues to be very surreal. After being a fan since It Bites, I could never imagine him being in my home, let alone practising Calling all the Heroes on his acoustic guitar in my bedroom!!

The experience and the night is over far too quickly, however, the Dunnery experience stays in your house for days after!! Roll on the next one!!!

Fiona and I hosted our first ever house concert earlier this evening and every single person in our home tonight had a terrific experience. Francis and Dorie gifted us a very special evening and we had a brilliant night of fantastic music combined with great, interesting and thought-provoking chat. Countless friends who attended contacted us to say how much that had enjoyed the evening. We suggest that if you get the chance to host or attend a "Francis Dunnery House concert" that you do. Thank you very much Francis and Dorie.

HOUSE CONCERT at the home of
Louise & Robert Mc Culloch
Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland 23.09.2011

Master Musician/Composer : Francis Dunnery
with Singer Extraordinaire : Dorie Jackson

The home of Louise & Robert was transformed by the creative musical talents of two unique performers, Francis & Dorie. The lounge became a ‘shuttle’ taking the occupants on a journey to ‘inner space’. A virtual ‘life-raft’ tumbling through the turbulence of personal moods while at times orbiting slowly over tranquil pools of melodic reflection. Guided by Master Guitarist Francis Dunnery we were alerted to an alternate version of our perceived ‘reality’. His ‘hop-on / hop-off’ tour of the Signs of the Zodiac gave each one of us, in attendance, something extra special to contemplate.

Past, Present and Future were merged into what may be called an ‘astral experience’. The creative energy, generated by Francis, the Bard, transposed the mood and psychic structure of what might otherwise have been a ‘same as usual’ Friday night.

The ‘stand-up’ delivery of provocative concepts was enhanced by the craft of the two professional troubadours. The verses emanating from a mystical source drifted over the enchanted audience in stereo harmony. This performance was much more than a concert-stage duet. We were treated to a subtle sample of the music of the spheres.

A blend of Playful and Profound was delivered in a potent infusion. Trace-elements of wisdom were dissolved in generous measures of sparkling humour. It was an uplifting tonic enjoyed by each and everyone in the audience. Mysterious characters from the Pantheon of Ancient Deities were unmasked in the revealing light of a bright new dawn.

Francis the Master Mariner took us on a voyage of self-discovery, skilfully navigating the stormy Ocean of Life, powered by the solar energy of his imagination. Friday’s house concert was more than music and humour. It provided us with an optional view of the formal face of what passes for ‘reality’. Someone said ‘time is a river’ but we all know that one can never step into the same river twice!

Friday night, 23 September 2011, was a significant point in time. Thanks to Robert and Louise for organising that intimate and remarkable Music & Astrology session. An extra-large measure of credit plus appreciation goes to Francis and Dorie for their enthusiasm and exceptional ‘other-world’ musical talents. Long may they prosper.

A personal review of my one and only House Concert – a magical experience.

Dear Fairy Godmother Kate.

Thank you first and foremost Thank you!

Great doesn't even come close, Brilliant doesn't even begin to cut it, sublime would be a good starting point!

I had a Dunnery & Dorietastic weekend beginning with a visit to Robert & Louise's house concert on Friday night and it kinda threw Francis a wee bit when he saw me because he wasn't expecting me to be there - that was brilliant and from the response I reckon you may have a few requests from that neck of the woods. Arrived back home at 4am after driving slightly in the wrong direction across two counties, I'm just glad Irish counties are tiny compared to those across the pond!

Sunday, where to begin! A packed house and I mean a packed house Francis & Dorie were in great spirits and having spoken to Francis on Friday he asked would I mind if he did the Astrology show monologue along with the it bites songs. The songs were great the interaction was great and I'm delighted to hear that Francis & Dorie enjoyed it, thats always a worry becuase you want to make sure that they have a good time too.

Everyone who was there enjoyed every second, even the sceptics and some of the comments Pauline & I have been getting are fantastic, I'll pass some along and I think Pauline wants to write a review / testimonial, so I'll get that sent along.

You mightn't know it but the North of Ireland is still very unsettled and Derry more so than other areas, even yesterday a car bomb was found about 5 mins drive from my home! But think about this for something amazing, among the people at the House concert which was held in the Bogside area of the city we had baptists, catholics, quakers, athiests, protestants, we had a man whose father had been a member of the british police in Ireland (who were hated in the Bogside) and we had a woman whose 15 year old brother was shot dead by a british army sniper - now where else would you get a mix like that - but keep that bit to yourself! But it just goes to show the power Francis' music can play in peoples lives!

I think I also freaked Dorie & Francis out them out when they were leaving, I told them to avoid a certain area their sat nav was taking them through incase they got hijacked, Ah the joys of living where I live. :o) B

Anyway I've gone on too long, I hope this finds you and your family well and that life is treating you good! The next time Ireland is being considered, consider me in that consideration :o), and Kate the house concert fairy godmother, thank you again so much!
Feargal & Pauline

I first saw Francis perform live at a house concert on Teesside the night before we moved to our new life in the Scottish Highlands and immediately registered for a house concert in Durness. We spent five years thinking that Francis Dunnery would never travel to the most North Westerly community on mainland Britain. We were wrong.

What became known as the 'Beyond nowhere' concert was a night to remember. As expected, brilliant guitar playing and some of our favourite songs from the Gulley Flats Boys with beautiful backing vocals from Dorie Jackson. Everybody went away having had a unique experience and many of our guests have since told us how they were touched by Francis' take on "the middle passage" and by his music. Our only regret, we forgot to take any photos afterwards but we will always have the memories of a fantastic night. Many thanks to everybody who came along and supported the concert and to Francis Dunnery and his team for agreeing to travel to beyond nowhere.

Best Wishes from us all,
Kevin

First of all it was the second time I have seen Francis at Mark's and thoroughly enjoyed both times. I have just had my 60th Birthday and although I am probably at the high end of Franci's fan club, still find the evenings fantastic, I think it is made better by Mark being such an excellent host, but don't tell him, as being the shy and retiring type it may embarrass him !!! The evening was rounded off by Francis playing Genesis with one of Mark's closest friends -a fellow performer who is an excellent musician, blind ,and has a very strong following in our area, one of those times money just could not buy. All in all a brilliant evening and I look forward to the next one.

Regards,
John Bingham

6:55pm and there were NO house guests at mine, even though they were requested to arrive between 6:30 and 7:00….. suddenly, 30 people descended upon Julie and I and we knew that the night had begun. Here they all were, friends and family, some unseen for a number of years, some unseen since last December, the month of my first ever house concert.

The seats were set, I don’t know as I type this and look at my room now, how I seated 30 people! All were comfortable and, although cosy, it shows that if you want to do something bad enough, positive energy will provide!

The party buffet was all prepared for after and now all we needed was the band. Gary was the first to show, whom I’d never met..what a guy! I felt like I’d known him for years. I didn’t know who he was, but he eventually sold T shirts and CD’s with great vim and vigour!!, Swiftly following, a lovely warm hug from Dorie and then the long awaited embrace from the big man himself, with a smile to light up a small country!

The great thrill and bonus of hosting is what happens next. Francis likes a coffee and whilst he has this, he spends quality time with the host. As this was my second concert, I was much more at ease and I really felt we were conversing. We spoke about music, life, family matters and aspirations, it seemed like he had all the time in the world for me and those precious moments turned into about half an hour… With genuine appreciation, he listened and absorbed whilst still managing to warm up and play riffs so amazingly difficult that most other people would need 32 tracks and 100 punch-ins to get anywhere near tying his laces!!

And so it came, I calmed the swelled crowd and did the big introduction. Met by enthusiastic applause, Francis and Dorie stunned us with perfect guitar playing and such balanced harmonies it’s impossible to describe. The stories followed which bought guttural laughter and subtly, quelled and hidden tears…not least from myself. He had us in the palm of his hand and played his audience perfectly. Dorie’s equal contribution continued to frame these songs..these songs of almost 30 years ago, moulded and rounded to perfection with such a slant of performance to perform them with just one guitar and two voices acting as one. This proves the quality of songs in the first place, not just standing the test of time but also wearing a whole new suit of clothes! Incredible!!

The night went on and for a good 90 minutes we were treated to slapstick laughs, emotional turmoil and cracking tunes…

They concluded ….. and another chance to speak with Francis. Again, we hit a few brilliant topics and put the world to rights with a bit of astrology, philosophy and of course, Egremont humour!!

Afterwards was something else.

Francis chilled and chatted with all the house guests, but I had a certain mission which I needed to complete. My best friend, his name is Peter Jones, is blind. He lost both eyes following a very aggressive cancer attack at only 13 months old and is now a professional musician, he has been since just 14 years of age. Unscripted and unplanned, Pete played Francis a few bars from one of his own songs, I know how unusual this is for Francis to do but, again, what a fantastic man to encourage this… and encourage it he did!! They both then went on to duet to about 25 minutes of impromptu Genesis!! I can only glean from this that Francis was relaxed and felt happy enough amongst us to let this happen. We all felt like we’d known him for years, he shared his time, his life, his lows, and his friendship with us, and my house guests were totally blown away by these “added bonus tracks”!!!

Eventually, Gary, Dorie and Francis departed. We partied on until 6:00am!!

Again, they left behind them something very special, not just memories, not even an “experience”, they left behind all I can describe as a tangible energy which touched every single person in the room, an energy that will last longer in hearts and minds than most can care to imagine.

Thanks Francis, see you next week at the CKCDF weekend, and, for sure, here again very soon!

Having Francis Dunnery in your home for a House Concert is exhilarating experience.  I have two admit it was a bit scary when I was first chosen to host a House Concert.  However Kate and Erica are wonderful organizers who made it easy to do.  My friends and Family were very pleased with the entertaining performance delivered by Francis.  It’s been a week since our House Concert and I am still receiving e-mails and calls thanking me for a wonderful night.

I first saw Francis at a Friends house.  I reluctantly agreed to go never hearing of a House Concert or a Francis Dunnery.  Once he started I sat up in my chair and soon became part of an intimate, interactive, very funny, philosophical and musical ride, all being preformed by a very tall man with his guitar and an Irish accent.  I too became hooked as I’m sure many before me did.

The next day I applied for a House Concert and to my surprise was accepted.  Meeting Francis a second time was much different when you’re the host.   Francis’s charisma and warmth was even more evident after my wife and I spent a short time alone getting to know each other.  Watching Francis’s performance and talking with him one-on one encouraged my philosophy to be myself at all times, use the past as a tool for planning the future but never forget the most important time is the present.

Love and Peace to Francis Dunnery and his House Concert Team, Kate, Erica and Gary.
Bless You All,
Kevin and Cindy

P.S. Gary don’t worry about the F-bombs, if anyone was offended FUCK-EM!

To call it simply a house concert is a disservice to the experience that a Francis Dunnery House Concert provides. Part concert, part philosophy lesson, part stand up set, a Francis Dunnery show makes you laugh, cry, stomp you feet and think about your life and the world in a whole new way. We were so fortunate to have Francis perform in our house this past weekend. Our friends were understandably skeptical upon receiving the invite. “A concert . . . in your house,” they’d ask quizzically. But upon leaving the experience, our guests were taken to a new place emotionally, spiritually and musically. Four days later now and they are still calling and e-mailing to say, “I was just driving home and thinking about the show and what Francis said.” From the moment you meet him, Francis reminds you of a friend you’ve known forever. That’s how he treats everyone and exactly why you walk away from a show feeling so great. If you haven’t hosted a house concert or seen one, well then what the feck are you waiting for?

Francis y Dori estuvieron soberbios, resulta asombroso escucharles cantar juntos, pero además estuvieron cercanos, muy divertidos y humanos. Hay que seguir haciéndolo es verdaderamente alucinante, Gracias Gracias!!!!””

"The concert with Francis and Dori at my home recently was something large and incomparable to other house concerts....had the emotion contained by the whole body that causes you to wake-up. It was magical for all who live with a lot of intensity. Francis and Dori were superb, it was astonishing to hear them sing together, but besides, they were close, very amusing and human. We must have them back because it is truly amazing, Thanks Thanks!!!!”"

Hey guys,

Just a few words of thanks to Francis, Dorie, Erica and Kate for the House Concert at mine on June 23rd. It's almost impossible to explain to HC virgins the enormity of these events.

Frank was, as always an inspiration to all who attended, his humour, personality, experience and down-to earth-ness were a tonic. His guitar playing was faultless, well almost, only playing one bum chord all night!!! haha Dorie and he could be twins, complimenting each other perfectly. I, as a guitar vocalist have never heard anything as tight from anyone before.

Throughout my relationship with Frank I have realised that he is not just a money orientated person but a kind, considerate man who has time for everybody and the rare quality to make all of his acquaintances feel entirely comfortable.

Friends who were lucky enough to be here all commented on how blown away they were and how grateful they were to be in his company. It truly was most magical. At one point as dusk arrived, it was getting quite dark and possibly difficult to see the chords he was playing, I was considering switching a light on and then all of a sudden a ray of orange sunlight entered, reflected on his guitar and lit the whole room up. Frank said "OMG, look at that Cumbrian sun, its beautiful" and so was the moment.

When he and Dorie had finished their performance they hung around for about 90 minutes, mingling and meeting all of the guests, Having photos taken and signing CD's. He even signed my Fender Stratocaster. Frank sat in the kitchen with myself and all of my friends for around an hour, talking to everybody and comparing our life experiences, this was just as good as the performance.

These House Concerts could be compared to some kind of therapy.
We've all said how we could do with a top-up every year!!

Whilst I'm here I want to thank my beautiful partner Andrea for her tireless efforts to make it the success that it was.

All the best and thankyou for creating a beautiful evening.
Love,
Dave Fearon.

Mitch and I would like to thank Francis, Dorie, Erica and of course the lovely Kate!
It was our first house concert, we had never been one previously. We didnt know how it would go. The house concert team were fantastic, the guidelines were clear and we followed them to the letter. It was so easy. My husband and I decided to open the concert to the public. This turned the night into something special. We made so many new friends with similar interest. we had a chance to talk and sneaky a hug with Francis and Dorie. The evening was so special and strangely private, intimate may be a better term. We were blown away by the connection Dorie and Francis have. Sooooo, it may have been the first but it won't be the last. The guests feedback were great... I'm hoping a few of our guests will go on and have house nights too. Thank you just doesn't seem enough

On June 16th 2011, Blue Latitude, a digital marketing and business consultancy, held its annual summer party in London UK. Our office became a living room for ‘one night only’ and Francis Dunnery and Dorie Jackson performed ‘The Astrology Show’ entertaining us with powerful melodies and funny anecdotes. It was a fantastic evening (even for the cynics amongst us), exposing things we both knew and didn’t know about the audience members, and leaving us in high spirits and with plenty of post-concert conversation!

Thanks so much,
Sophie Berger

As a person who has never seen Francis let alone attended a House Concert, I had no idea what to expect. To say I was pleasantly surprised and delighted is an understatement. In walked this wall of a person, Francis being 6’5” and me being 5’ made him a little intimidating to me but that was quickly changed to immediate fondness. He is so personable and unpretentious, making everyone feel at ease. His music is a joy as I witnessed his fans just taking in the dulcet tones. Many people traveled long distances and were not disappointed. Francis was so very charming in an Irish sort of way. I found his concert to be a pure delight.

Francis played his Gulley Flats Boys album that evening. It was my third experience seeing Francis play. I had never seen this particular show but, as always, I was very impressed. Francis has a natural way of becoming your long lost friend by the time the show is over. He was inviting, funny, truthful, and expressive. He conveyed a simple message of "a changing life" and how we all sometimes get too wrapped up in our own egos instead of being true to who we are and who we want to be. His own personal reflections are so true to how many people feel at different times of their lives. With age comes wisdom and Francis is able to impart his wisdom upon his audience without sounding like a know it all. My favorite part of every house concert I have seen is the feeling of rebirth I have once the show is over. To see Francis play live at a venue is fun, but to hear him tell the stories of his life and share of his own experiences at a house concert creates in me a feeling of renewed strength as I regain ownership of my own attitude. We chose our attitude each day and Francis never loses sight of that. Please tell him how much fun we had that night and how much I look forward to seeing him again soon!

Sincerely,
Dave Spudy

We had a great night last night. Everything worked out great. It is not easy to gather 35 people in one place at a certain time when some people had long journeys to do but we managed it. Everybody had a fantastic night and I am sure Francis and Dorie felt really comfortable with us. (Hopefully). I would like to thank you for all your help and advice over the last couple of weeks. Everybody went home really happy, everybody thanked me and I just want to pass these thanks on to you and of course Francis and Dorie. They were fantastic and I am sure have picked up many more fans.

Thanks Kate.

All the best and hopefully we keep in touch.

Hallo Ken,

In diesem Sinne:
Dankeschön für den super Abend und viele Grüße auch an Deine Lieben.
Kalman

Hi Ken,

Thanks again for the organization of the Francis Dunnery Home Concerts inforest book. Also, nearly a week later I'm still "shocked positive. " What an event! I have seen many concerts. But actually I was still none of them inspired as sustainable as that of Francis. My wife is still jealous that this evening could not be there. (I think we will also organize a home must Concert).

Right now I'm in my solo record, I'm working on for quite some time to completely revise. And I've never been so fast and yet so convinced by the results. The way Francis and Dorie have performed - natural, earthy, simple andstraightforward, without much fuss around it, has shown me that I walk with myrecent production in a completely wrong direction bin.
Now I'm away from the mainstream-pop bombast and-down to the ordinary singer/ songwriter material. And it works!

Who knows, maybe we will meet again at another house concert?
Then I will have a CD meant for you have it and then I look forward to yourresponse.

In this sense:
Thank you for the great evening and many greetings to your loved ones also.
Kalman

Hi Kate,

Francis and Dorie were awesome last night. the room was packed and they didnt have much room so I hope that was ok. Even tho it was my 3rd show, I still get nervous. I was exhausted when I went to bed. Everyone loved the show, met a lot of new people and some old friends - another very emjoyable evening. He brought tears to my eyes last night - he was so funny. Dorie definitely added to the show and it was lovely to get the chance to chat to her.

I asked Francis how many house concerts he has done and Dorie said you would know - now there's a challenge for you :0)

Hope all is well and thanks for giving us the chance to host another show - much appreciated
Best Wishes,
Eric, Andrea, Kids, Dog and Rabbit x

The house concert I hosted on Thursday 28th April was one of the most amazing evenings I have experienced. In short, I have been waiting for this moment for 24 years! I was an absolutely massive fan of It Bites as soon as I heard their trademark tune ‘Calling all the heroes’ and travelled all over the country (thanks Mum!) watching them perform. My absolute highlight was always being there as the band arrived and sometimes had the fortune of watching them practice. My teenage nightmare came when it was announced that they were to split…devastated! Although I loved the band and the music, it was always about Francis for me. His voice, his guitar and of course, his looks! My bedroom wall said it all…!

Some years later, I found out that he was to play in a local club in Macclesfield; I couldn’t believe it, Macclesfield is so close to me and my pop idol was to appear there, wow!!! It was an amazing night and after all the time he had been ‘off the scene’ it seemed a perfect time to ‘come back into my life’. A few gigs later and I was hooked again.

The house concert concept was totally new to me until a couple of years ago when another friend of mine emailed me to say that Francis was appearing at a house concert in CONGLETON. Hold on, a HOUSE concert in CONGLETON? I couldn’t believe it. I emailed the ‘name’ on the website, only to have it confirmed that it was true. As the day approached, I became pretty nervous; I couldn’t believe that he would be performing in someone’s house. True though. What an amazing experience, it really opened my eyes to his life and just where he was ‘at’ now. Not just the music, his life experience and who can forget the ‘presence’ he has. He had the whole room hooked for the whole time he was there.

Leaving that house concert, I thought of holding one myself but it seemed too good to be true.

That is, until I received an email from Kate at the beginning of April 2011 asking if I wanted to host a show on 28th April 2011. Fortunately, I am able to receive emails on my mobile and answered her immediately to say yes. A few hours later, I received the ‘congratulations’ email. Oh my god, Francis was to appear in my house?! Now to most people, that would be cool, a chilled experience; but to me, it was unbelievable, a moment in my life that I would never forget.

I was not let down, the whole night was a perfect mix of strangers coming together with their own stories of the past and present; together with the excitement of an artist appearing right in front of our eyes and the most bizarre thing…in my conservatory! The house was buzzing from the moment everyone arrived, Francis and Dorie arriving, right through to them standing in my kitchen drinking tea and eating sandwiches. A very bizarre moment in my time, weird and wonderful, enlightening and moving; all at the same time. A very deep and amazing show that once again had all my guests hooked leaving us all wanting ‘just another hour or so’.

All in all, a brilliant night that will never be forgotten – roll on the next visit (can I book one!!!!???? Ha ha!!!)

We had a fantastic time with Francis on April 2nd in Maine. That was the third show Francis had done for us and it was quite amazing to watch how polished it has become over the years. We began hosting concerts in 2004 and Francis was our first one. Back then Francis entertained and moved the audience with his fantastic voice, playing, songs, and usual wit – now he has refined the experience to a highly focused and powerful show which leaves the audience feeling they have just shared in something very personal and profound.

We had a crowd of roughly 60 people – I couldn’t help but notice one woman in particular reacting to Francis’ comments about coming to terms with the painful and inescapable journey through the middle passage of life – his words were clearly resonating with her. She was probably approaching 50 years of age, quite attractive and well dressed, but her body language was nervous – you could see the pain on her face and she couldn’t sit still. I was worried she would get up and leave, as if the honesty in the words was too much to face in that moment. Francis being the fine craftsman he is followed that with music so moving I could see her morphing through the experience in stages. She went from what seemed like agony to a sort of calm elation, and toward the end of the night was laughing and far more relaxed. I basically watched someone being healed in front of me – you just don’t get that at an ordinary concert folks – wow!

I was able to spot this easily because this is what Francis did for me the first time he came to the house and played. I’m sure he was unaware at the time but I knew I was getting some kind of divine help from the universe.

I don’t think Francis ever set out for it to be this way – to be of this particular service to people. It’s just where life brought him and I’m very glad it did because I get to offer it to people and it obviously helps them the way it helped me. I’m honored to play a part in this unique and awesome journey. We’re all in this together.

Hello Kate,

I just got home from Perrysburg, OH. I'm in heaven. The concert last night was incredible. It was a night filled with the beauty of warm people (John and Helen are great folks), brilliant music, humorous stories, poetic affirmations and the sight of one very beautiful spirit. At the start of the concert Francis said something like "you'll leave a different person." How true. It was intense I have to say. I laughed, and cried, and sang, and thought deeply about my experience on this planet. His wisdom is an inspiration and his spiritually is a gift to those who seek to make their world a better place.

I just wanted to say thank you for sending me the concert information. I can't tell you how much I loved seeing him. It would not have happened without your note below.

Forever thankful,
Karen
